About the Office 365 ROI Acceleration Calculator
Forrester did a study and found that the ROI from end-user productivity gains of Microsoft Office 365 can be significant by leveraging the capabilities of Skype for Business, SharePoint, and the advanced features in OneNote and Office Professional Plus. But that ROI is contingent upon the usage of these applications and Microsoft's own research shows that between 70% and 90% of the end-users don't know how to use any Office 365 applications beyond the traditional Office Suite.Read More
This calculator shows the potential incremental cost savings and ROI that can be generated by increasing the usage of Office 365 through educating and encouraging your users.

Note: While the Forrester report is from 2011, Microsoft still offers this report on their website (which implies they still believe it is valid information). In addition, Microsoft has added many new capabilities to Office 365 since the Forrester report was published that only add to the potential value of Office 365 that is yet to be realized by most organizations.
Calculating the Incremental Cost Savings per User per Month per Application
The Forrester report showed each user could save the following hours per month from using these applications:
- Skype for Business (formerly Lync Online) saves each user up to 4.67 hours per month
- SharePoint saves each user up to 2.67 hours per month
- Office Professional Plus and OneNote saves each user up to 2.67 hours per month
The Forrester report also stated that between 50-75% of these hours saved would be translated into true cost savings to the company. For the purposes of the calculator, we assumed a 50% conversion rate into true savings.
The formula for the incremental cost savings per application shown in the calculator =
A) The hours saved per month per app (shown above)
B) TIMES the expected cost savings conversion rate of 50%
C) TIMES the difference between a 100% usage rate and the usage percentage entered by the calculator user
D) TIMES the fully-loaded user cost per hour entered by the calculator user
The Forrester report used a figure of $30 per hour for the fully-loaded user cost, which we placed as a default number in the calculator. This number should be changed by the calculator user unless the real number for their organization is not known.
Calculating the Total of Incremental Cost Savings per User per Month
The Total of Incremental Cost Savings per User per Month is simply the total of the savings from the three applications above it.
Calculating the Incremental Company Cost Savings per Month
The Incremental Company Cost Savings per Month is simply the Cost Savings per User per Month TIMES the number of Office 365 users entered by the calculator user.
Calculating the Incremental Company Cost Savings per Year
The Incremental Company Cost Savings per Year is simply the Incremental Company Cost Savings per Month TIMES 12 months.
