“Binary Tree’s Domino Application Services successfully navigated us through a very complex migration quickly and efficiently where we saw an immediate $200,000 in ROI.”
- Steven Lee, Project Manger at Jotun
Jotun was in the process of their first phase of migrating to the Microsoft cloud. In an earlier project they had migrated users from IBM Notes to Office 365. Now, they wanted to also migrate 128 legacy applications from Domino to SharePoint Online. They hoped this shift would help drive even more adoption of the Microsoft platform. But they soon realized that some of their applications would be more complicated to migrate than they had initially thought. So they decided to enlist the help of an expert.
The Search for the Right Partner
For the next phase of their Microsoft migration, Jotun searched globally for a best partner with expertise in modernizing applications to SharePoint. Their search led them to Binary Tree.
“Binary Tree was quick to grasp exactly what we needed,” said Steven Lee, Customer Project Manager at Jotun. “Right from the start, they showed they understood our business, our challenges, and our needs. They were flexible in how they could plan and execute the project. And they clearly knew SharePoint inside and out.”
The Solution: Application Migration Services
Jotun chose Binary Tree’s Domino Application Services as a clear, realistic approach to transforming their legacy applications. The first step: planning. Much of the project’s success was due to the three months they spent in the discovery phase up front. “These kinds of projects have planning as a key component,” says Viktor Jansson, Account Executive at Binary Tree. “You often can’t move over legacy applications as is. So you have to plan out the sources and targets in detail. We made sure to question and discuss everything, down to the smallest details.”
The Results: That Perfect Finish
The planning paid off. In seven months, Binary Tree helped Jotun migrate 128 Domino applications to SharePoint Online, plus archive the old versions. Through it all, the project stayed on time and on spec.
Already, Jotun has saved more than $200,000 on licensing costs and maintenance. And they were able to free up and re-allocate IT members who used to be dedicated to maintaining Notes and Domino.
Best of all, Jotun employees are working together better than ever. “Using Office 365 and SharePoint has significantly improved our productivity and communication,” said Steven. “We’re on a whole new level now. And we wouldn’t have gotten there as quickly without support from Binary Tree.”
