Schedule Migrations to Eliminate Manual Work and Wasted HoursJuly 2, 2019
In my job every day, I interact with solution providers, business partners, clients and even our own Binary Tree Professional and Managed Services experts to gather feedback and address challenges in the field.
I hear client stories like, “My company buys and sells lots of other organizations throughout the year. That means, for me as an IT administrator, lots of migrations! I have used many solutions and built a lot of my own to manage and build process around these common tasks. However, today these projects tend to be more tenant-to-tenant, which in some ways makes my job more difficult. I need a solution that will allow me to create, license and migrate my users mail, calendar, archive and all their personal files and documents. Most of all, I want to be able to schedule all those activities, to free me up from pushing buttons and triggering actions. I want a solution to migrate my tenant users from start to finish without me pushing a button to start any of them!”
And I catch partners and services saying things like, “We are running daily migrations for parallel customers, all with different schedules and waves of users. My current solutions aren’t automated enough and make me click so many screens each day, it takes up time from project management duties and other customer projects. We need a solution that we can easily deploy, schedule and monitor progress. That’s it! Is that so much to ask?!”
Well I am very pleased to let you know there is a solution out there. Let’s take a few minutes to look at the most pressing challenges our partners and clients are facing with regards to managing and scheduling migration activities.
Binary Tree has recently expanded on the scheduling capabilities of Power365® to help free-up your precious time. Now with Power365 schedules, a migration administrator has the flexibility to decide when a wave of users or mailboxes will be created and licensed in the target tenant environment. Schedules also provide a means to define when a user’s first sync, next sync and last sync occur. And finally, schedules deliver a method to set a date and time of when a group of users will begin their final move into the destination tenant and receive their Outlook cutover notification.
It couldn’t be easier!! Create a schedule and assign it to a wave of users. A wave is a logical grouping of users. When setting up the schedule, choose which activities you want to schedule and which you don’t. You may schedule Prepare, Sync and/or Cutover, then choose a start time for each. You may also set the Sync frequency and total intervals.
For example, I have 4 waves setup with 1,000 users each. I plan to migrate all 4,000 users within 1 month. So, let’s look at this simple calendar to help schedule out our wave activities.
The above schedule illustrates how new Power365 scheduling capabilities can help you stagger the key migration activities to ensure a smooth, effortless migration experience for both you and your end-users. Schedules will free you from the daily migration routine and keep you away from run books and migration checklists! Don’t spend your time pushing buttons and managing lists, set it up and let the software work for you – not the other way around!
If you are in the business of migrations or your company conducts regular mergers, acquisitions and divestitures and you need a solution to help you organize, manage and schedule it all - Look no further than Power365.
