Meet Steve Derbyshire, President of Domino Transformation SolutionsNovember 13, 2018
Entrepreneur, philosopher, and Brit. As president of Domino transformation solutions, Steve heads up product development, sales, service delivery, and support.
How did you come to do what you do?
I joined British Telecom (the other BT) as a general entrant manager and ended up in IT. Loved it and never looked back.
How did your career journey lead you to Binary Tree?
I graduated from Manchester University in England with a degree in philosophy. Since then, I’ve been in the IT industry for over 30 years. I started working in technical disciplines and have retained a passion for innovation and change that improves people's lives. I’ve started 3 businesses, had one fail and sold the other two. I also worked as a freelance program and project manager for a number of years before joining Binary Tree in 2014. Since then, I’ve held several roles at Binary Tree and enjoyed every minute of it.
What technology advancement in your career has surprised you the most?
Seeing Moore’s Law and miniaturization in action. I'm old enough to remember life before the mobile phone (and smart phone)! Having something in my pocket with as much power as my first mainframe is simply awesome.
What’s your proudest career moment?
I don’t have a single proud moment that stands out, but I get a tremendous kick out of seeing people I’ve worked with and mentored succeed.
What drives you?
Delighting customers with superior service and delivering projects and technology that makes a transformative difference to our customers' user communities.
What industry shift will our clients need to be on the lookout for soon?
On the gadget front: bigger phones / phablets will start to go smaller by becoming foldable. On the key technology front: AI, Big Data, Smart Homes, and Smart Cities are going to drive enormous change. Technology will go from facilitating many of our daily transactions and providing entertainment, to becoming an integral part of every aspect of our lives.
