Migration Methodology: Detailed Assessment

Detailed Assessments Can Help Reduce Risks and Migration Costs!
Once a project is underway, Binary Tree recommends performing a detailed assessment in the environment. Binary Tree’s detailed assessment phase helps drive down manual work and overall migration costs.

The Detailed Assessment can include a messaging assessment, an application assessment or a Detailed Assessment of both environments. The Detailed Assessment is done using Binary Tree’s CMT Inspector for Lotus Notes (Enterprise Edition) application which is implemented on local Notes workstation(s) with connectivity to the Domino servers where the Domino mail files and applications reside. The inspection processes and analysis performed during this phase typically includes the following:

·         Server Catalog

·         Application Catalog

·         Mail Box Inventory

·         Application Usage Inspection

·         Email Usage Analysis

·         Email Attachment Analysis

·         Email Archive Analysis

·         Email Server Configuration Analysis

·         Application ACL Inspection

·         Replication Settings and History Inspection

·         Rooms and Resource Analysis

·         Design Inspection of Unique Applications only (replicas)

·         Population of Design Search Details

·         Sophistication, Complexity and Best Practice Analysis

·         DNA Analysis against Domino Templates

·         Complexity Searches for Mail and Web Enablement

·         Export to MS Access for Reporting

·         Migration Risk Detection

After performing a detailed assessment, customers will be able to:

·         Gain a better understanding of the existing Lotus/Notes Domino messaging and application environment

·         Understand email and application database usage, and eliminate unused databases and mail files

·         Understand full scope of potential e-mail migration effort

·         Identify potential hidden costs and obstacles associated with an e-mail and application migration effort

·         Review application security and replication history

·         Determine application database complexity and compliance to best practices

·         Compile a list of databases that are based on templates that could be easily migrated to SharePoint

·         Itemize a list of applications that are mail and web enabled

·         Minimize end-user impact associated with an e-mail and application migration
