For those of you planning to make the double-jump from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 and take advantage of its excellent scalability and new features, it's important to think about the upgrade as a two phased project.  

First, you'll build out the new infrastructure - new servers, disc space, etc. Secondly, you'll have to move the users, and their stuff, from the old Exchange 2003 servers to the new Exchange 2010 environment - all while the users' email is off-line.
